Production engineering involves the design, control, and continuous improvement of integrated systems in order to provide customers with high-quality goods and services in a timely, cost-effective manner. It is an interdisciplinary area requiring the collaboration of individuals trained in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, product design, marketing, finance, and corporate planning
Coming over to the technical subjects involved in semester three (SEM III) they are as follows:
>>Engineering graphics and machine drawing
>>Manufacturing Engineering
>>Strength of materials
>>Theory of materials
Engineering graphics and machine drawing:
Topics covered in this subject gives a production engineer the act and discipline of composing plans that visually communicate how something functions or is to be constructed.
Interpenetration of solids,Auxiliary projections of solids, Machine elements, Assembly and Detail drawings, Gears, Study of Limits Fits and Tolerances are some extensive topics included in this subject. For a technician to work efficiently he must have a very sound knowledge of drawing. The main objective of framing syllabus of Machine Drawing is to make the technician well trained in drawing, so that he may be able to work in different fields such as in industry, department of sales or services or in the department of drawing and design etc.
By going through the contents student will be able to:
>>Understand drawing and develop capacity to represent any matter/object with the help of picture.
>>Develop primary knowledge of working drawing.
>>Produce orthographic drawing of different machine parts.
>>Develop skill to produce assembly drawings.
>>Develop skill to produce detailed drawings of machines parts from assembly drawing.
Manufacturing Engineering:
Manufacturing engineering work on the development and creation of physical artifacts, production processes, and technology. The manufacturing engineering discipline has very strong overlaps with mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, electrical engineering, electronic engineering, computer science, materials management, and operations management. Manufacturing engineers' success or failure directly impacts the advancement of technology and the spread of innovation. It is a very broad area which includes the design and development of products. This field of engineering first became noticed in the mid to late 20th century.
Need and classification of tools, Turning machine lines and processes, Drilling machines and processes reciprocating machine tools and Milling and Broaching machines are some extensive topics included in this subject.
Strength Of Materials:
The study of strength of material will include finding the safe limits of a force to be transmitted by any particular piece of material, finding the deformation caused by transmitting any force, and finding the dimensions of a piece of material in order that it may safely transmit any particular force. This topic covers how stresses and strains act differently on metal. Theory of bending moment and theory of torsion too plays a key role on studying how metal behaves. the study of SOM involves the principles of dynamics of principal stresses, struts and theory of strain energy.
Theory of Machines:
Motion characteristics of mechanisms, Introduction to CAMS,gears, clutches brakes and dynamo-meter, turning moment diagram and flywheel and vibrations are topics covered in the syllabus of theory of machines. Theory of machines provides an insight to the basic concepts of kinematics and mechanisms to the working of machines.
